Do. Love. Walk.

Hello, my name is Michael Clevenger. My life is a romance with providence. I love Jesus, the least of these, worship, music, biking, intercession, traveling, theology, philosophy, non-violence, learning, listening, reading, adventuring, exploring, tea, writing, photography, coffee, stirring up others faith, good times, good sweet tea, & good BBQ-- not necessarily in that order. Check out my new blog "Gospel of the Kingdom" below.

While we send blessings out to the American families who lost loved ones on 9/11, let us also never forget what happened as a result. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghan families were senselessly murdered as a result of an act of terror they did not commit. There is no “us vs. them” in the Kingdom of God. We are all one. Let us never forget that we belong to each other.

Papa, make us a people who are safe for you to trust with miracles. Make us a people who will not exploit or market or pervert the power of the Spirit. Make us people who get out of your way. Amen. (Taken with Instagram)

This is the great paradox and humor of God’s audacious power: a stuttering prophet will be the voice of God, a barren old lady will become the mother of a nation, a shepherd boy will become their king, and a homeless baby will lead them home.  God works not in spite of but through our frailty.

Becoming the Answers to Our Prayers, Shane Claiborne and Jonathan Hartgrove

“Following Jesus’ example, we’re to place our trust in the power of the cross — the power of self-sacrificial love — not the power of the sword. We’re to trust the power of Calvary, not Caesar. And this is why I believe those who spend their time and energy trying to control the political arena ‘in Jesus’ name’ are profoundly missing the point. Our job is to love, serve and sacrifice for sinners — not argue about passing laws against them. For we are to know that, whatever sin we see in others, our sin is much worse (Mt. 7:1-3).”

The Poor in Spirit: Social Media and Christianity

thepoorinspirit:

One of the downfalls of social media, especially in the realm of Twitter and Tumblr, is that the short nice-sounding quotes, sayings and bits are the ones that are going to be retweeted/reblogged/reposted. While I don’t want to downplay the powerful truths these 140-character-messages are…

“Whenever your heart starts to be anxious about the future, preach to your heart and say, ‘Heart, who do you think you are to be afraid of the future and nullify the promise of God? No, heart, I will not exalt myself with anxiety. I will humble myself in peace and joy as I trust this precious and great promise of God—He cares for me.’”

“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. It is a choice based on the knowledge that we belong to God and have found in God our refuge and our safety and that nothing, not even death, can take God away from us.”

– Henri Nouwen
