Do. Love. Walk.

Hello, my name is Michael Clevenger. My life is a romance with providence. I love Jesus, the least of these, worship, music, biking, intercession, traveling, theology, philosophy, non-violence, learning, listening, reading, adventuring, exploring, tea, writing, photography, coffee, stirring up others faith, good times, good sweet tea, & good BBQ-- not necessarily in that order.

A Journey of Learning

The last couple months I have been on a journey of unlearning.  You can read about it here:  A Journey of Unlearning

Now I’m on another journey and would LOVE for YOU to join me!  How about I explain what this entails before I ask you to sign up?

The Holy Spirit has been pressing on me the importance of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and his High Priestly Prayer (John 17).  And I think it would be edifying, encouraging, challenging, spectacular, wrecking, AMAZING, to daily read through them for the next month.  If we would daily read these astounding truths our minds would be renewed to Christ’s teachings leaving our lives fully transformed.

Why the Sermon on the Mount?

In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, he speaks of:

  • being mild-tempered, peaceable, merciful, a lover of righteousness.
  • condemns not only murder but being wrathful with others
  • condemns not only adultery but lustful thoughts
  • speaks against irresponsible divorce actions
  • loving even those who dislike/hate you.
  • giving to the needy
  • stopping unmerciful judging
  • treating others as you would like to be treated

Imagine how your life would look if these were a description of you.  Imagine how your city would look.  Imagine how the world would look.

Lord Irwin once asked Gandhi what he thought would solve the problems between Great Britain and India.  Gandhi picked up a Bible and opened it up to the fifth chapter of Matthew and said:

”When your country and mine shall get together on the teachings laid down by Christ in this Sermon on the Mount, we shall have solved the problems not only of our countries but those of the whole world.”

Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States, said similar:

“I do not believe there is a problem in this country or the world today which could not be settled if approached through the teaching of the Sermon on the Mount.”

Why Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer?

Imagine with me that you knew you had one week to live and you had one thing to tell your loved ones, what would you say?  Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer in John 17 is exactly that.  It’s Jesus’ prayer for you and me, so graciously placed in John’s eyewitness account of Jesus’ life.

So there you have it:

Come join me on A Journey of Learning and pass this on to family and friends—to those who have no clue about Jesus and to pastors who have walked with him for decades alike.  Pledge to read through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer (John 17) daily with me for a month and be ready for your life to be radically different!
